Meet Dennis Auslam,
the man behind the horse.

For over 30 years, Dennis has passionately trained all breeds of horses and riders to make both the best they can be. His ultimate goal is training good horses and teaching safe and common sense riding skills to horse owners. Dennis has trained every type of horse, from trail horses to green colts to world-class stallions. His training program is not only thorough, but effective. He communicates with the horse simply — in a sound and consistent manner — wherein the horse responds, performs, and achieves results. Dennis is a career trainer whose honestly and passion extends to each and every horse he trains and touches. His ultimate goal is to work with the horse and rider to make them both the best they can be. Dennis has traveled in the U.S. performing at every type of equine event and exposition. He is an expert who can present fundamental clinics covering practically every training topic essential in today’s robust world of equine interests and categories.

Dennis Auslam has been involved in the horse industry on a professional level for the past 35 years. He was born and raised in Idaho and moved to his current home at Redwood Stables in Morton, MN in 2004 with his wife Michelle and daughter Emma. His resume includes professional rodeo, campaigning horses in various breed shows, working with handicapped riding programs, coaching college level rodeo teams, and professional training across all breeds and disciplines. His passion is developing the proper relationship between the horse and the human. He enjoys teaching people and helping them with their horses. Dennis believes that good teachers are not born, but they are made. His experiences over his lifetime have helped shape him into the teacher he is today. However, he believes that horses and humans are never “finished” because the learning process never ends. He is a firm believer that there are no quick answers when it comes to training horses. The horse and human relationship is hard work and is developed over time. “Horses have taught me more than any human ever has or ever will. “

Working with Dennis, his knowledgeable staff and his ever changing obstacles, helps our unit to prepare our newer riders and horses for Mounted Police work in an urban environment.  Even experienced riders and horses improve their abilities, confidence and trust and learn something new each time they attend a clinic. "

Have attended several two day clinics in the past several years. My horse went from having little self-confidence to completing the most challenging of obstacles. I learned to not react but to lead my horse. At the end of the clinics we performed as a team, horse and rider.”

Sandy B.

Spent the day with Dennis working with my two year old . He is so patient and rewarding with the horses, firm when he needs to be but very fair. I learned so much and my horse and I gained so much confidence. I would recommend this to everyone, it is so worth it."
